What do I need to prepare for a financial planning meeting?

We can start the financial planning process with just a few pieces of information:

  • A list of your investment and retirement accounts with recent statements
  • A projected retirement budget for living expenses
  • A list of additional expenses in retirement such as new vehicles, new home, travel, etc.

Once we build the initial framework of your financial plan, we may request additional information through a financial planning questionnaire. The more details we can build into your plan, the more useful it will be in achieving your goals.

How long is a financial planning session?

We can complete an initial meeting in under 30 minutes to start gathering information. Once the initial framework for your plan is built we can correspond via email to gather additional details. Going over a fully developed financial plan is an interactive and collaborative process that takes about an hour. This detailed session can explore additional options and concerns about your retirement to paint a full picture of the path to securing your financial future.

How often should I update my financial plan?

We think of financial planning updates almost like an annual physical with your doctor – it is just a financial check-up. At a minimum we recommend reviewing an updating your plan annually to make sure you’re still on track for a successful retirement. We also recommend making an update anytime there is a significant life event that impacts your finances, such as a marriage, a divorce, or a career change.
